feat Question

Postby Needles » Fri Oct 30, 2009 10:48 pm

You know I posted this question on Paizo's message boards and no one answered it.

Can I combine Vital Strike and spring attack together? My character moves, uses Vital Strike to attack, then moves away again.
There are lies, damned lies and statistics.

Spring Attack (Combat)
You can deftly move up to a foe, strike, and withdraw
before he can react.
Prerequisites: Dex 13, Dodge, Mobility, base attack
bonus +4.
Benefit: You can move up to your speed and make a
single melee attack without provoking any attacks of
opportunity from the target of your attack. You can move
both before and after the attack, but you must move at
least 10 feet before the attack and the total distance that
you move cannot be greater than your speed. You cannot
use this ability to attack a foe that is adjacent to you at the
start of your turn.
Normal: You cannot move before and after an attack.

Vital Strike (Combat)
You make a single attack that deals significantly more
damage than normal.
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +6.
Benefit: When you use the attack action, you can make
one attack at your highest base attack bonus that deals
additional damage. Roll the damage dice for the attack twice
and add the results together, but do not multiply damage
bonuses from Strength, weapon abilities (such as f laming),
or precision-based damage (such as sneak attack). This
bonus damage is not multiplied on a critical hit (although
other damage bonuses are multiplied normally).

Attack
Making an attack is a standard action.
Melee Attacks: With a normal melee weapon, you can
strike any opponent within 5 feet. (Opponents within 5 feet
are considered adjacent to you.) Some melee weapons have
reach, as indicated in their descriptions. With a typical
reach weapon, you can strike opponents 10 feet away, but
you can’t strike adjacent foes (those within 5 feet).

Per the rules, it is within the rules to do so. Spring Attack takes up both your move and standard action to pull off. Vital Strike is states your attack action which is your standard action to attack in the spring attack. It's legal as it is written...

Incorrect. Any that are answered there are from Piazo staff who run the show or wrote the books themselves such as Josh Frost(Evemt Manager, Head of Pathfinder society) or James Jacobs(editor in chief).

Josh is pretty much the one man show who does everything on Piazo for Pathfinder Society.

Thank you lostpike I finally found the answer:

Q: Spring Attack has a rather mushy description, but I am pretty sure you can combine it at least with a Vital Strike. I'd also like to have some clarification if you can also combine it with Cleave and Deadly Strike.
A: This is not 100% clear actually as the wording for Spring Attack has changed in PFRPG and it may not be able to be combined with Vital Strike.

Now to the next question in a new thread. :D

Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook – Unofficial FAQ 10/31/2009

This is an unofficial list of frequently asked rule questions about the Pathfinder RPG game. If an answer has a name listed with it that means it was answered by an official employee of Paizo and may have a [source] section that will take you directly to where it was said. If no name is provided then I have done my best to show the answer either that I have found directly in the rules with a link to the PRD or was group consensus from the rules forum at paizo.com. As new FAQ's are added they will be shown with the date that they where added.

The question asked is NOT been answered by an official employee of Paizo. Its still up to debate...

These answers are done by Tim Shadow, Jason Bulmahn, and Joshua J. Frost. These guys put the rules together and made the guidelines for Pathfinder Society, I would assume so.

Ed what i am talking about, each question on that list has a link for the source of the answers. Some do not, like the Spring Attack and Vital Strike question you have.

The following information was compiled by and is maintained by Tim Shadow (ShadowChemosh).

If no name is provided then I have done my best to show the answer either that I have found directly in the rules with a link to the PRD or was group consensus from the rules forum at paizo.com.

Since this Tim Shadow is not a member of Piazo, he can't make ruling of a group consensus that overrides a GM at the table unless it comes from one of the rulling for a Working Member of Piazo. Thats my point. Other wise any question answered by anyone in the forums is legal where it isn't. Thats the reason is it Unoffical unlike Offical Faq.

Well your other choice is to sort through the forums yourself for these answers which he has compiled....a lot of them are answered in the first blog under the pathfinder society section but Frost directs everyone to the Rules section if it doesnt deal with pathfinder society directly and those questions and answers arent as neatly collected...
