Drow and Genasi - Probably allowed as PCs races

Postby thetrickygnome » Fri Jul 18, 2008 5:53 pm

Oh man, I think they opened Pandora's box with this but what the hell...

They have a preview for the guide up:

http://www.wizards. com/rpga/ downloads/ rpga4_frpgprevie w.zip

If this link does not work, click on the link on the Living Forgotten Realms Yahoo Group
message number 4508.

Seems we'll be able to play Drow and Genasi. It also has the
Swordmage Class and regional benefits.

OMG!!!! I totally missed the parts about the warforged and the artificer open
for play. Are you sure this is in there? I only saw the drow and the elemental
genasi as extra player character races. And with all this... still no love for my
beloved gnomes. Oh great, now I am tempted to bust out with a warforged. I
always found them very intriguing as a race but I never had much love for the
Eberron campaign where they are heavily used. It looks to me like they are
getting off to a major bang with the LFR right out of the box.

Edit: David, I went back to the preview document and I did not see anything
about the warforged. Can you provide a working link to this info? Thanks.

I can understand why Gensai is there.
Why Drow is there I'm not too sure, shouldn't be a playable race.
Warforged is up there huh...Christ, Eberron wasn't bad enough now they infect LFR.
Artificer huh...Well there's proof WotC is going to F'up LFR.

As per there ruling on Dragon magazine Content. All of it is playable once the whole article in an RPGA game unless there is specific ruling against this. So I am definitly making myself an artificer!

If anything has taught us in the past. Wait till campaign docs come out. They will have a list of what will be allowed for play.

I don't see a problem with the drow, genasi, or warforged beign a part of Living Forgotten Realms.
When Living City was around it was a campaign that was praised for being dynamic and very creative.
It was high fantasy and when you play high fanatsy, expect the unexpected. If they can come up with a
credible storyline for these creatures to be viable player characrter races then I'm all for it. Besides,
with the drow they got rid of one of the biggest and most unbalancing pain in the ass powers they had
which is spell resistance and they reduced their innate powers significantly. Secondly, 4E D&D is one of
the most balanced versions I have seen to this day. The days of the wizard and cleric hogging the show
while the lesser PCs stand around seeing what wishes and miracles can do or how a holy word can wipe
the combat in 6 seconds are gone. So with a system that is so well balanced out where every race and
class can more or less stand on their own and where the key to survival is TEAMWORK and not trying
to be a one man army as the campaign ofundation I say now more than ever is the time to expand the
variety of races players can choose from.

Balance and teamwork rule 4E. I hope they do allow warforged ebcause I played one for one game in
Eberron. I never got into Eberron but I always liked the warforged.

personally, warforge should stay in eberron. I like that drow and genasi as they have been a part of the world of FR for a long time...

Artificer kinda stinks anyway in comparison with the other leader classes though its spend a healing surge for temporary hit points is kinda cool

Warforged shouldn't be in LFR, but Artificers? Sure, why not? Not like they don't exist in the Realms. Only difference is that they were previously a Prestige Class. Just say you're from Lantan and off you go.

Warforged are also more powerful then other races. Think, a warforged warlock can use 4 rods at once!

You can carry up to four rods ready to use. That doesn't mean you can use them at once, anymore then a Human Warlock can use two rods at once because he's got one in each hand. When you can get the same result through the use of the Quick Draw Feat, it's not terribly powerful in comparison.

That is correct and incorrect. You can only use one to attack with. However, any powers that come from an impliment that is weilded such as the rod of corruption or reaving (crazy combo) does work.
