The Summoning 2008

Postby Highmoon » Tue Jul 08, 2008 11:23 am

It's early July, the perfect time to start talking about The Summoning 2008.

What plans are in place already for this year's con?
Who's in charge right now?
Who is the contact person for event submissions?
What help is needed?

Let's not repeat the lack of communication from last year and work together to make 2008 an even more awesome year for the one Miami gaming convention.

I will not in any way be a part of the asministration for the Summoning 2008 ( my reasons are my
own ) but from what I heard and in talking with Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami, it looks like it will be at the old Holiday Inn
off US 1 where they used to have the Nights in the Circle years ago. Honestly, I really like that place
and apparently Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami, got a good deal. I would speak to Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami, if I were you. The dates I am not sure
of but I heard a rumor about October but don't quote me on this. As far as what help is needed I cannot
day but call Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami, and see what the story is.

I liked the old Holiday Inn, actually. Small space, but cozy. I'll send a PM to Morganwolf (I refuse to write his name since the board does that stupid text replacement).

You can still attend and play, you know that, right? ;)

I totally intend to. I just have to try and get tables with people that I am comfortable
playing with. If I don't like "the scenery" then either I move to another table or I just
don't play. No biggie with me. It's not the world will end if I miss a slot or two.

My intention is to try to schedule variety this year, with non-Living versions of some games, and some indie titles as well. For someone like you who really gets into the story, I know you'll enjoy some of these games.

Excellent advice Daniel.

Speaking of the games you have in mind, can you name some of them to me and maybe describe them
a bit. I don't need an enormous amount of detail but if I know a little bit ahead of time ( and this would
work for others as well ) then maybe it will help us with our decision. Mind you I do not know how much
of this stuff would become playable at the con ( that is the con administrations decision ) but a little bit
of heads up as to what MAY show up would be cool.

Sure thing.

I'm looking to offer some play opportunities for indie, narrative-focused games that attack RPGs from a different angle. The most "famous" example I could give you is Spirit of the Century, a pulp pick-up game where the character's stats are his skills (WHAT the character can do) and Aspects, descriptive terms and phrases that say WHO that character is. PCs are generated at the table in a process that ends up generating webs of relationship betweent he characters and usually the conflict. There are other games in the same vein as Primetime Adventures, where the group creates the TV show they want to play, and Dogs in the Vineyard, about pseudo-Mormom religious justicars in a west that never was, which is all about moral dilemmas.

This is just very quick. In Oct, I'll be helping to organize something called Go Play South Florida, a one-day mini-con focused on indie games, so it'll be a great way to come down and sample the games and the play style.

Aside from that, I'd like to help out in the process of getting the con together, and perhaps offer non-organized play versions of some of the games offered (some non-Living D&D, or Witch Hunter, or whatever) for those that want to play but don't want to do it Living-style.

I'll assume that's a big NO.

Daniel my suggestion would be to email Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami, directly and talk to him about your ideas. A proposal of what you'd run possibly?

We'll take that discussion to viewtopic.php?f=63&t=7529

This is in the reply to what part exactly?

I've already PM-ed him to drop by this thread, and I'll send him an email as well. I want to get lines of communication open first and then we can talk scheduling. I have a couple of people ready to run games as well, not just me.

ok daniel, you can contact me or peter about these games you wish to run. You want to help run the convention- what do you mean by that , are you saying you want to help financially? or something else?.
call peter at 305-607-4563 or me at 786-287-1221.
