TOP 10 THINGS OVERHEARD AT GENCON

Postby tadkil » Mon Aug 20, 2007 6:51 pm

10) We are playing this at ATL Drunken Dire Weasel.

9) Player 1: I cast something that gives me 2d6 more whack!

DM: Which spell?

Player 1: I don't know! Muddy sticks of splattering big whack. The earthy one.

8 ) Player 1: Whose our judge?

Joe K: Darth Barth…

Player 2: We need another cleric.

7) It's not the stink of sulfur and fear that bothers me, it's the running through the darkness screaming that gets on my nerves.

6) Deploy the FROGS!

5) I will be impressed when you can tell me how bad he blew the saving throw by how rare the meat is.

4) I took Diehard so I can see the last one coming.

3) We suck when it counts!

2) Player 1: Did that guy just blow up?

Player 2: YES!

Player 1: Damn! Remember when Afridhi sucked? I miss that.

1) Dave Arneson: Don't plan too much. There's really no plan that can survive contact with good players

I liked Ed's comment.

Player: "What do you mean a DC 25 Fortitude save, I'm a wizard."
GM: "Yeah, well we all make sacrifices."
Player: "I rolled an eight."
GM: "You turn to stone."
Player: "That wasn't so bad..."
GM: "Now I disintegrate you as an object."
Player: "That's bad..."

I actually feel bad for the players who are going to play that mod.

Hey, at least Ed had a chance unlike myself.

I just got the fortitude save, the GM still rolled a 1 on Ed's touch attack, he was a lucky man.

You mean lucky Elf. I was playing DnD last night and I opened a door to a dark room and I got charged by a Drow Elf with a lance on one of them giant. Lizards. I figured with sixteen hit points and looking at double damage I was dead. The DM rolled a one. I feel so lucky I think I'm playing the lottery this Wednesday and see how much luck I have left.
There are lies, damned lies and statistics.

First God created idiots, he was just getting started, then he created Wizards of the Coast 4e Dnd.

Blanket statement to all involved

You have a right to do what you are doing
You have a right to do what you are going to do
You have a right to deal with the consequences, for better or worse.

And now my dwarf sits back with a keg of ale at his side and a plate
full of pork and potatoes and watches the fun.

How about that Wizards Cabal!!!!

Postby thetrickygnome » Wed Aug 22, 2007 2:03 pm

Wow.. all this over the death of a member of the Wizards Cabal with a
Arcane Warrior present. Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami,, I've been telling you this forever and
you had to learn the hard way. Here, I'll put it in big letters for you to
be able to read clearly..

THE WIZARDS CABAL OWNS YOUR ASS BECAUSE THE
MOMENT YOU BECAME AN ARCANE WARRIOR YOU HANDED IT TO
THEM!!!!

Regardless of whether you this PJ is a loyal member of the Wizards
Cabal or you think he's a duplicitous bastard of a Cabalist, as long as
he is a wizard in the Cabal, the benefit of the doubt goes to him.

Personally, I hope that this little "problem" mushrooms and blows up
like a 100 nukes going off on an anthill. Why? Because it will highlight
what I have been saying for the longest time. Blackmoor is a great
campaign but the world itself has its proverbial head shoved so far up
the Wizards Cabals ass that you have to schedule the appropriate time
and place with the Wizards Cabal just to be able to scratch yourself.
Now that said, Tad and the crew have done something very good and
that is allow the players to dictate how long and how strong the Cabal
can keep this kind of stranglehold on the world / how long it can remain
steadfast to outdated doctrines that are relics of the many foolish
decisions of the past. The only way the Wizards Cabal is going to change
is if WE THE PLAYERS MAKE THAT CHANGE OR FORCE THE ISSUE
THRU PLAY. That is why I stood up at MegaCon and essentially told the
Inquisitor there that he was a blatant two-faced hypocrite for allowing
known sorcerers to fight in the BI when instead he should have arrested
them immediately. He knew that the good guys /PCs needed every bit
of firepower available to fight the Afridhi so he had so swallow his
stupid Cabal rules and let them fight. And you know what.. I'm not even
playing a sorcerer!!! Oh, and if what PJ is true, I am one of the most
hated people amongst the Arcane Warriors for standing up and making
my case to the Inquisitor himself with nothing more than logic and
conviction.

The bottom line Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami, is that you have chosen to play a very powerful
base class with lots of benefits. However, one of the drawbacks to it
is that it allows VERY LITTLE room for error, even if you don't think you
screwed up. Guess what, based on the very rules that your Arcane
Warrior swore to uphold, regardless of the circumstances, you messed
up and I say this not because you are a bad player or person but
because the rules you swore to live by were the same ones that stabbed
you in the back. Also keep in mind, the Wizards Cabal is essentially
a L/N organization so when they look at what happened, they don't
care about the good or evil of your intentions. They only care about the
results and the results were that a wizard of the Cabal died on your
watch and APPARENTLY you had a chance to save him with better use
of tactics. So if this thing goes further Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami,, just understand that part
of this is your own doing.

As I said before:

You have a right to do what you are doing
You have a right to do what you are going to do
You have a right to deal with the consequences, for better or worse.

You wanted to play an Arcane Warrior? You wanted to play a class that
has the overwhelming and suffocating support of the Wizards Cabal?
How many times have you laughed in my face and made fun of the
fact that you have the Wizards Cabal backing you up and my dwarven
PC has no one but himself? How many times have you joked about how
even the churches can't do anything without the Cabals consent? How
many times have you lorded over the fact that the Wizards Cabal's
mark is on so many of the certs the players own?

Guess what Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami,, the Wizards Cabal has been the cow that you've
been milking for a long time and taking full advantage of it. So I guess
it was a supris when the cow thought you squuezed too hard and
kicked you in the mouth.

You might think all the grief you're getting is unfair but the reality of it
is that it is a product of the environment you play in and the choices
you have made of what to play and why. So now you have to deal with
the consequences of your choices and actions. All I have to say is good
luck.. you're going to need it.

Well I've said what I wanted to say. Now my dwarf will return to his
pork, potatoes, and his keg of ale and watch merrily as people bash
an Arcane Warrior for failing to uphold the tenets of the Wizards Cabal.

Signed- Rene' Alfonso
