Blackmoor question of the week.

Postby Thanos » Wed Jul 11, 2007 4:56 pm

IMO no way a pally would knowingly put an innocent in danger and go looking for adventure.

What do you think Ramon? :|] :|]

I am only looking out for my 1/2 dwarf unborn baby .

He's not adventuring the last five months of his pregnancy was it?

That is a tough question, the chick has to earn some way of making money. I don't think the sugar daddy is going to pay up. Hence, she has to keep adventuring to the last minute.

I think not

Postby thetrickygnome » Wed Jul 11, 2007 8:41 pm

A Lawful Good paladin would put the life of another being ahead of
their own. Carrying a life within you that cannot fend for itself at all
and then thrusting yourself into danger where harm done to you is
potentially fatal to the child is both irresponsible and non-paladin like.
With my LG PC Destiny D'vyne, I stopped adventuring almost
immediately after I revealed she was pregnant and that is one of the
reasons I didn't really bother with high level LG even though Ralph, The Godfather of DnD in Miami,
was always trying to get me to do it.

Besides, if we want to inject a bit of reality into it I can't imagine a
pregnant woman getting knocked to negative hit points or something
like that and NOT losing the baby.

My advice would be take the high road and just play another PC or
count of the TU's a simulate the pregnancy period. Lawful good
paladins = selfless humilty and dedication and worshipping Henrin, I
think the god of the downtrodden and common man would think very
poorly of you if you risked the life of a child.

If Lady Sera Phaulcon needs a little "spending money" to cover cost of living expenses, I'm sure a former "performer of the realm" can rely on the generosity of friends and patrons.

The last things Dungeons & Dragons needs is an "official"ruling on pregnancy-Ramone might be trying to push the envelope. What kind of fortitude save vs. damage would be required to avoid a miscarriage? There are no pregnancy rules in any system. Even White Wolf recomends that pregnant characters simply take time off. A pregnant homid Corax(were-raven human breed) cannot even change shape upon becoming pregnant. No more strange rulings.

Well in the end it is up to Ramon and knowing Ramon he has already thought it out. I do like giving grief to Ramon from time to time because I have never seen someone play a paladin more true to its nature then him. He roleplays with the best.

I just thought it was an interesting situation and I would have argued with him Sunday but to be quite honest most of us were pretty comatose.

In the end I don't expect a ruling or anything like that its just my opinion and I thought it maybe interesting to discuss.

My feeling is that a Pally wouldn't go looking for trouble but if she had to would defend herself or other innocents.

A pregnant paladin would be two hostages for the price of one. Heaven help the kidnapper, and if someone assassinates Lady Sera, that person better have a special place reserved in hell.

Is Raddon Goss looking for a host body to inhabit? Could he magic jar himself into a fetus? Think about the other scary stuff that could happen.

What about mind affecting spells. I think at some stage both would have to make saves or it would be random who is targeted.

The mother would make the will saves as it is still a part of the mother until it is born. Think of the fetus as "attended equipment" for sake of argument.

And by the way, thanks for the "Magic Jar into a Fetus" idea, I like it...

Ok... A LG paladin who is pregnant would not go adventuring for
"Just Business" but I think would go adventuring for "Night of Goss"

One event is just protecting someone's goods. the other is saving the world form the BIG <insert Joss Whedon's voice> EVIL.

To me it is a about the hazard to the world.

What is Raddon going to do with a fetus and a magic jar spell? Cast detonate body, cast dominate monster from within. There is no advantage I can think of except for sick stuff. That sick stuff is too much for the campaign. People would complain like they did with the beggining of the Brundigan(spelling) series.

Ed, thank you for being the voice of reason. Tell Ramone to either retire for the rest of the year or figure out the remainder of the pregnancy in TUs. You are BIG ED. Stand next to him, look him in the face, and TALK DOWN AT HIM.

No way I magic jar into the fetus and quietly hide out until Ramon has sustained enough damage and then I cast a maximized empowed ennervation from within his stomach with a ranged touch attack and take him down without him ever knowing what was going on.

Lighten up Ed, I could never get that past the coordinators. Jeez, too serious. You'd make a perfect Wizard's Cabal member...
