It sounds like an interesting tournament to run. I don't agree with the entrance fee/ Money distribution, however, I thought I'd post it AS IS...
We can change this as we see fit, but it's definitely original.
As a result of some spirited discussion on this board (check under the Army Percentage thread), WizKids recently announced a clarification that widely increases the variety an organizer can put into tournaments--as long as they don't change the mechanics of play (no house rules).
On the Saturday between Christmas and New Years, my venue will run what we call a Commanders Series tournament--four Swiss rounds, each with different conditions, but you can't change forces. I'm posting the first draft of the format here to invite comments and spur ideas...
MW:DA Commanders Series Tournament
Four-round Swiss system (no finals).
300 point battleforces, use same force in all rounds.
2:00 Round One: Standard Tournament Game
Standard terrain rules (no deep water), and
standard victory conditions.
3:15 Round Two: City Fight
Only building terrain B1 through B6 may be placed.
For VC2, your units only score if in base contact
with a building or are controlling a captive.
4:30 Round Three: River Advance
Three shallow W5 are placed by organizer to cut
the field in half. Each player places one more
terrain piece (no deep water). The only VC is a
special VC, equalling total of your unit points with
base completely across the river, plus total opponent
points eliminated or Salvage.
5:45 Round Four: Rolling Down The Highway
Standard terrain rules (no deep water) EXCEPT all
terrain must be entirely within the left 12" and/or the
right 12" of the field, so a 12" wide strip connecting
the two DZs is clear. For VC2, your vehicles or 'Mechs
with center dot occupying the center 12" strip and
within 12" of the opponent's edge score 4X points.
$10.00 Entry Fee
All 4-0 records win $50 store credit
All 3-1 records win $20 store credit
Win last two rounds without cashing, and win two 'Mechs.
LE Prizes to first place, second place, Fellowship
LE Prize to best single-faction force
LE Prize to best Star (force of exactly five units)
Must pre-reg at WizKids site to assure a place
Tiebreaks (for LE prizes only) among equal records:
1. Solkoff (sum of wins by all opponents)
2. VCs won (ties are 0.5; round 3 win equals 3 VCs)
3. Smaller battleforce
4. Sonneborn-Berger (wins by all opponents beaten)
5. Head-to-head result between two tied players
