LARP background roll call.

Postby MrFilthyIke » Sun Sep 29, 2002 1:06 pm

So, what is everyone's prior exp with LARP? I played LARP
exclusively from 1995-1999 every Sunday w/o failure. :|]

I also ran the Camarilla sanctioned LARP for a while in Orlando,
and have played TT vampire/mage/werewolf/and wraith.

It's been a few years, but I still consider myself fairly experienced
in LARPing and such.

So, how's about everyone else tell about their previous exposure
to LARP (if any) so we know what to expect from this crowd. :)

... from my other half and myself, no experience, though we have gone out and picked up 'Laws of the Night' and are reading through it.

That's the best place to start, and it's fairly through explaining the world and whatnot. Also, the Camarilla Guide is a good choice to pick up...

Well, aside from John admission of no experience (through no fault of his own :) ), does anyone else have experience LARPing? Or, aside from those at the meeting, are most of the other gamers here newbies to LARP or just not interested?

Been LARPing since '96 or so. The only problem is that I am not currently in the US... More than willing to assist with Character Write-Ups & storylines if necessary though.

Just plugged in my vote.... But I'm not sure if I voted for the right clan, you see there was this guy chad hangin' about.... Anyways...

Just outside of London (20 minutes by train) in a place I'd rather refer to as "East Windsor" rather than the actual name of Slough... Not much in the town other than 2 curry houses, a chip shop & three rather crap pubs that don't even televise footie!! Enough of my rant on the UK...

As for background for the game, would I recommend that none of the players be allowed to play the Prince & part of the primogen council from the on-set of the game. It's fine to let them work to that position, but I've seen too many games breakdown in to testosterone-induced paper-stone-scissor tests as all the blokes try to assert their masculinity.

Keep them as NPCs for as long as possible. It would be fine to allow them as Storyteller characters for a session or two, but they should remain in the background.

Another thing that I would like to see in a game, but do not know if a LARP would be the forum is more ghouls and less vamps. This would make things a bit more interesting. I just love the portion of the ghoul book discussing the aspects of how certain groups of ghouls capture vamps as "blood dolls" of their own... But as I said earlier, that's just my 2 euros.

As far as I know, the Prince shouldn't be a big part
of the game, and is mostly in the background. All
the players will be Newbs to the city. And testosterone
will be actively discouraged by screenings of Lifetime:
Television for Women. :|]

All should go well, provided any radical elements or
nutball players throw the standard monkey wrench. :|

Prince- will not be a big part. The prince is an old character of mine, and he is a lithe slim well dressed bon vivant of an alternative life style. I dont fit into his clothes, thus he will not be seen.

We have spoken and put in place several factors that would quickly remove the idiot factor. We are hoping that the people who play are people interested in role-playing, and not in living life as a backdrop to a Morrisey song.

remember all that it takes to put a 500 year old elder into a drainage ditch in Kendall from his haven in The Grove around here is

1)a box of pastelitos and a colada to the right building and zoning inspector
2) 3 cuban construction and demolition guys with a wrecking ball.

Cuban coffee is a legal form of speed. But not many people know of this fact.
